Spring Awakening Director Giovanni Ortega and Actor David Leathers

Giovanni Ortega is an actor, dancer, choreographer, author, professor and director. 

As an accomplished actor, Giovanni has performed in Romance of Magno Rubio (Inside the Ford Theatre), which, as a result, landed him an LA Weekly award nomination. Giovanni's past performances include, Dogeaters, (Center Theatre Group) and has also performed in Imelda as President Marcos. Giovanni's film credits include Ray of Sunshine (Newport Beach Film Festival), Letters from Iwo Jima, Twixter, Coffee Date, CSI and the critically acclaimed NBC series Heroes.

As a director, Giovanni has directed numerous performances which include East West Players New Works Festival: I Heart LA, Head Aches, Max and the Revolution, The Charlatan and Jack in Common; Flow (Getty Museum) and People Power (Southern Utah University) among many others. 

Giovanni is best known for writing ALLOS, the Carlos Bulosan story. Then in March 2014, it was produced again as part of the theatre company’s Migrant Stories. This theatrical production was recently filmed and produced by KSCI-LA18.

David Leathers

David Leathers is a young actor, an acappella singer, and performer with eight years experience under his belt. Presently David is playing the character Melchior in Pomona College’s production of Spring Awakening

David's prior productions include: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Pomona College), Into the Woods, Les Miserables, Grease, and Guys & Dolls (Shorecrest High School). David also starred as the lead role in Jon Jory’s Prom Game. In addition to various roles in musical theater, David is a president and tenor in Mood Swing A Cappella, an A Cappella group, which recently performed at the South California A Cappella Musical Festival in Claremont, CA.  David has also played a supporting role in the film, Thank You For Bombing, which was shot in Amman, Jordan.
