ActorsE Chat – Writer
Director Samuel Gonzalez Jr with Host Julie-Kathleen Langan
Samuel Gonzalez Jr. is a
writer and director, originally hailing from Bronx, New York. Samuel was raised
in sunny Central Florida and became interested in film at a young age. Samuel
spent a lot of time with his friends making home movies and through making
films, he shared many stories.
Samuel enlisted in the
U.S. Army after high school. Since there was no money for him to pay for film
school, this seemed a likely alternative to help him pay for school. Samuel was
quickly deployed to Iraq following his basic training, and entered combat
almost immediately. During his deployment in Iraq, Gonzalez and his battalion
endured an ambush in which he lost his best friend. As a result of his quick
thinking, sacrifice and bravery during the attack, Samuel received the Army
Commendation Medal with Valor. Samuel grew from his experiences and used his
daily life experiences using video cameras from back home.
Upon his return from
battle, Samuel enrolled in school at the Art Center College of Design in
Pasadena, California. During his attendance, Samuel developed his skills and
caught the eye of a renowned Hollywood photographer, Matthew Rolston, who
would become Samuel’s mentor. This soon led to Samuel’s work expanding and
garnering him many new opportunities in music, television and film. While
completing a rigorous professional shooting schedule, Samuel was able to shoot
23 short films and several commercials. His career has just taken off and he
has been noted by many in the industry as someone who is up and coming and a
sought after director.
Samuel completed his
education and graduated from Art Center College of Design in August 2013.
