Voice-Over Industry Survey
This research project is serving two purposes: My primary goal is to gain insight into the Voice-Over industry--I'm not aware of any systematic study that has been done of the industry and the players in it. I'm working with a company that works with the Voice-Over industry--some of the questions in the study are specifically designed to answer questions they have about the industry.
The participants in the study were selected from a variety of sources and then concatenated into a single list. Individuals were selected from that list for this study. I am explicitly NOT sending out a general request for anyone who wants to participate--that type of non-probability sample would skew the results in a number of respects (including allowing "ballot stuffing"). So far, more than 300 individuals in the industry have responded, and we're putting the second wave into the field Thursday afternoon to give those in the industry who have been selected another opportunity to participate in the study. (Wearing my other hat as an academic, I can't help but point out how much more important a high reponse rate is for a valid study than a large number of respondents.) All information submitted is confidential. The survey program keeps track of responses using a code number for each person invited to participate, but all identifying information is removed from the data before any analysis is conducted. The industry sponsor will only get aggregate data--no data on individual responses will be reported. (The sponsor will also not know who participated and who did not.)
The results of the study will be shared with the industry in a White Paper that will be prepared once the study is complete. Anyone who participates in the study has the opportunity to request a copy of the White Paper once they complete the questionnaire. The White Paper will also be shared with the trade press.
Kurt: Final note: Thanks for your interest in the project, and for the perspective you provided me on the Voice-Over industry. This industry is not only a vital part of the audio production industry; it is also a great example of how the Internet and related technologies are changing the way business is done. I'm excited to be adding to the body of knowledge regarding the industry.
