Promo Pathway Program is an accredited training program, which prepares students for the exciting world of entertainment promotions. As a formal training program anchored at Santa Monica College (SMC), the Promo Pathway graduates students to become ‘PrEditors’, a specialty hybrid promo producer, writer and editor. The Promo Pathway was developed by the South Bay Center for Community Development (SBCC) in partnership with PromaxBDA and Santa Monica College.

The Promo Pathway is a career pathway that targets under-served youth and trains them for high paying jobs in high-growth areas of the entertainment industry. The curriculum was designed by an advisory group of recognized leaders from the international television promo industry including the PromaxBDA Diversity Council. Promo Pathway Structure The Promo Pathway was developed in a modularized structure to allow students with varying degrees of technical, creative and academic skill to enter the program at different levels. Graduating students will have a strong academic foundation, fundamental knowledge of the business of media, script structure, creative writing, communications as well as strong creative and technical (editing, sound, etc.) skills.

Classes are offered at SMC in the evenings from about 5pm-9pm Monday-Thursday. The program is designed so the students take all their classes together as a cohort or learning community. SBCC provides a full-time Student Support Specialist who attends class with the students and provides wraparound supportive services such as assistance with transportation, child care, accessing resources in the community or on campus, organizing study sessions, and anything else needed to support the students in succeeding. Internship and Mentorship Program Each student in the Promo Pathway will have a chance to intern at a national TV network or promo agency.

The internship allows students to gain valuable experience, work alongside promo writers, editors, and producers, develop networking contacts, apply classroom knowledge to the work place, and learn about all areas of on air promotions. Additionally, each student is matched with an industry professional as their mentor and will work with their mentor throughout the program. http://www.promopathway.org/
