It was well worth the wait! Kevin Carter, who is a master as a writer of media events, wrote this brilliant piece for the 2-11-11 edition of RAMP. Just in case you didn't see it, here it is for your reading enjoyment. I also hope you will love (if you haven't already) watching the video. It's posted on YouTube and also on my channel calledradios best friend or by just searching for art vuolo.
In December 2009, "Radio's Best Friend" Art Vuolo, Jr. was vacationing in Southern California and invited a couple of us local industry types out for a nice holiday lunch. We laughed a lot, told a bunch of wildly embellished stories and had a great time. In December 2010, Art convened the sequel, which he dubbed the "Radio Dream Lunch." This time, the assemblage had blossomed to what he modestly referred to as a "Fabulous 15" (technically 16, if you count Shotgun Tom Kelly's hat), which, for reasons still unclear, included RAMP's own Kevin Carter. This time, Art brought his trusty video camera and taped the whole raucous affair. Theresulting highlight reel has been chopped down to 15 mostly violence-free minutes and will make you feel like you were there, minus the pie-related mayhem.
Pictured basking in the post-lunch afterglow are (top, l-r) Saville Kellner of Black Card Radio, voiceover pro Kurt Kelly, Joel Denver of All Access, voiceover ace Randy West, LA Radio's Don Barrett, Art Vuolo, programming icon Charlie Cook, technical whiz Gregg Ogonowski of Orban and Kevin Carter. Seated are (l-r) Shotgun Tom Kelly of KRTH/Los Angeles, legendary L.A. GM Wally Clark, Greenhouse Marketing Group CEO Jim Hampton, KRTH PD Jhani Kaye, former RCA promo guy turned ice cream magnate "Dandy Don" Whittemore and Los Angeles radio deity Charlie Tuna. P.S.: Thanks to Art's professional editing skills, you have been spared a) the gratuitous nudity and b) the arguments when the check came over who had the cup or bowl of tortilla soup. ...
