Ah, how times have changed.
We used to send mail, remember [back in the good olde days, yesterday], with pen, and paper and stamps....
which was progress from ink wells, quills and burning wax, delivered by pigeons ...
ah, the pigeons...my car paint loves them....not!!!!!
Then we evolved to bulk junk mailers, flyers, magazines, coupons [oh, the coupons that cause you to by more impulse junk].... great for starting bar-b-q's, winter fires, and for mountains of paperwork collecting on desks, shelves, corners, awaiting there final destiny.
Then came technology, dial-up with blasting tones to wake the dead, and the free global enterprises of banner adds, and cookies, and spyware all in the name of saving paper, ink, wax, stamps, paper-cuts, translators to decipher your chicken-scratch.... ah yes, and photo uploads and downloads to see the posting of who you wanted to be when seeking a date or online recognition...and to find that perfect date who did the same as you; uploaded a picture of someone else....
and yes, the marvel of EMAIL... love my email, so much that I have different email addresses for every different shade[s] of me...
However, then there is the email with every social networking site, plus the email they send you to let you know that you have email from you 5,000+ personal friends, and that's just on 1 of my 10 facebook pages, and let's not overlook, blog spot, twitter, myspace, me, linkedin, my web site, my company web site, consulting web sites, industry web sites, voices, voice 1-2-3, bodalgo, voicebox, my box, your box, and the 300 other boxes we haven't even started on yet...
Now tier in the junk mail, the spam, the spoof, the aloof, the who the hell knows email, the who the hell cares email, my new dates who I never asked for emails, my promo enlargement emails that I should see a doctor for if they last more than 6 hours, my new family inheritance email, I won something again emails, b.s. emails, dumb emails, joke emails, no subject emails, poor subject emails....the I CHANGED THE TOPIC 14 TIMES BUT KEPT THE SAME SUBJECT LINE, TRY AND FIND ME EMAILS, rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggghhh STOP!!!
And that doesn't include the real money emails about SERIOUS BUSINESS, agent emails, voice over class emails and the 85 gig of archive emails and the 1,200 emails daily yet to be read by the 3 full time people who are still trying to catch up with my emails after the 10,000+ new monthly emails after trash, spam, junk, and answered achieves...
SO HELP ME HELP ME AND YOU... try simple additional filters with you subject lines like:
RUSH - AUDITION
IMPORTANT
FREE SEX & NO STRINGS OR STDS
NEEDS APPROVAL
RESTRICTIONS APPLY
BULL SHIRT
Don't stop there! These filters should be in addition to what the email is really about, like:
IMPORTANT: MEANINGLESS RAMBLINGS THAT WILL BORE YOU TO TEARS
RUSH: AUDITION FOR JOB WITH BIG COMPANY NAME
MEANINGLESS INFORMATION: WHEN YOU ARE BORED AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO
The first part is the filter, so if I don't want "MEANINGLESS INFORMATION" as a priority it filers to the folder where I store that kind of stuff. The subject of the email content "WHEN YOU ARE BORED AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO" should follow the filter so I know what it is and it is quick to keyword find. To me there is something to be said for attention to detail. Why would you send highly important, or sensitive information to someone with "no subject".....what are you really telling the reader, you are lazy, careless, un-creative; or just frankly Scarlet, just don't give a damn! You email etiquette may need refinement, may I suggest:

You get the point, you are competing with a lot of noise; something that makes you stand off the endless page of things that may never get read in time if you feel it is really important! However don't cry wolf!
